Restorative Yoga

GentleLight Yoga was started by Tricia Daniel in 2002.
Tricia offers small classes and 1:1 tuition in Bath.

With GentleLight Yoga, yoga poses are adapted and modified to help people with specific or persistent health problems. The postures are kept very simple. Most postures are done lying down on the floor to encourage the whole spine to release and relax.

Sitting in chairs is encouraged for those who cannot sit on the floor with ease. Cushions and blocks can make poses comfortable so that people can relax and feel an easeful, gentle stretch.

Each session will include a balanced set of poses that calm the mind and energise the whole body. Postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques are tailored to the needs of the individual.

Specific poses may be recommended to help particular health issues. Exercises given by physiotherapists and osteopaths can be done in a yogic way because focussing on the breath will enhance their benefits.

How can gentle yoga help me?

Sometimes called remedial yoga, the restorative yoga we practice in class helps to bring the body mind and spirit back to a harmonious state, where we can realize our true nature, that essential state of inner peace or being. Being in the present moment.

You will also learn different gentle techniques from the Chi Gung (Xi Gong) tradition which help to harmonize the internal energies within us. This leads to a state of balance and inner stillness. This inner stillness is what we call Yoga.

According to yoga philosophy disease manifests not from the physical, but from the disconnection with our source or spirit. When we are able to remember who we are the healing is accelerated.

The constant refinement and rediscovering of the yogic practices allows each person to gain the benefit of healing. Often the healing is not a total physical cure, but a rebalancing of the energies that flows through the body, mind and emotions touching the spirit. Everyone feels a sense of peace and clarity and develops a sense of self awareness that is in tune with their highest level of healing.
